STORM LAKE, Iowa (Sept. 1, 2021) - Mount Marty scored a pair of goals just minutes apart late in the second half as the Lancers spoiled the 2021 season opener for the Buena Vista University men's soccer team on Wednesday night with a 2-0 victory inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium.
Mount Marty held a 13-1 edge in total shots throughout the first half, but the defensive effort by the Beavers held the Lancers in check. Goalkeeper
Isaiah Thomas was strong all night, guarding the net for all 90 minutes and stopping eight shots on-goal.
Mount Marty broke the scoreless match during the 67th minute off a nice lead pass into the middle of the field in front of the box before Diego Romero punched it through to make it 1-0. Only two-and-a-half minutes later and the score doubled with the Lancers scoring off a loose ball attempt from around 18 yards out to make it 2-0.
BVU was unable to get many clean looks at the goal throughout the contest and was held to just four total shots. Â
The Beavers will look to regroup and get into the win column this Saturday (Sept. 4) when they remain at home to host Bethany Lutheran at 2:00 p.m. This match will be played out at the team's North Field.
