STORM LAKE (March 28, 2021) - The Buena Vista University softball team matched a season-high with 16 hits, including eight for extra-bases, to help power its way to a series sweep of visiting Loras College on Sunday afternoon, 12-3, in five innings.
Savanna Pohlmann helped lead the charge with a pair of doubles and four RBI. Kayden Archibeuqe went 3-for-4, including an RBI triple during BVU's five-run third inning, and
Carlee Guyett added a two-run home run to right to finish 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.Â
Rylee Cain also added three hits, including one of the team's six doubles.
BVU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second thanks to an RBI double from Pohlmann and an RBI groundout from Archibeuque. The Duhawks cut the lead in half in the third but BVU would answer right back in a big way with five runs of its own in the bottom half, including three straight extra-base hits from
Alyssa Barnhart, Guyett and Archibeque.
The hit parade continued into the fourth when the Beavers added five more runs, highlighted by Pohlmann's two-run double and Guyett's two-run line shot that was just high enough to clear the fence.
Ashtyn Miller made the start inside the circle and went the first three innings, allowing just the one run and scattered three hits while striking out five.Â
Peyton Gross came on to work the final two innings and worked around a pair of fifth inning runs.
Abby Bergholz turned in a pair of base hits for the Duhawks, who drop to 0-10 (0-6) on the year.
Buena Vista improves to 11-7 overall (3-3 A-R-C) and will next travel to Coe College for a three-game set next Friday and Saturday in Cedar Rapids. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
