(February 27, 2021) - The bats continue to sizzle in the early going of the season for the Buena Vista softball team as the Beavers chalked up 22 more runs on Saturday night en route to a doubleheader sweep of Northwestern-St. Paul by scores of 15-2 (5 inn.) and 7-3.

Junior Ashtyn Miller used the bat and her arm to get things done in the opener as she went 2-for-3, including a triple, at the dish with five RBI and two runs scored.  She also went the distance on the mound, striking out 10 and walking none, while allowing just two runs on four hits.

Rylee Cain doubled and went 3-for-4 with five RBI and a run scored while Mckynze Hansen and Kayden Archibeque turned in two hits apiece.  BVU out-hit the Eagles in the game 14-4.

The Beavers took control early with three runs in the top of the first before breaking things open with a four-run fourth and adding seven more in the fifth.

Miller turned in her second triple of the night in game two as part of her two-hit performance while driving in a run.  Senior Carlee Guyett also tripled and tallied two hits.  BVU had four players with multiple hits in the contest as it chalked up 11 more in the contest.

After Northwestern scored a run in the top of the first, the Beavers stormed right back with three of their own in the home half to take a 3-1 lead.  They went on to add to that total in the third with one run before NWU-St. Paul cut into the lead with one of its own in the fifth.  BVU widened its cushion in the sixth with three more runs, including a pair of RBI groundouts.

Junior Peyton Gross went five total innings to pick up the win for the Beavers.  She was charged with two runs and scattered six hits while striking out five.

Buena Vista (4-0) will look to stay unbeaten when it takes the diamond again on Sunday morning for a doubleheader against Bethany Lutheran College.  First pitch of game one is set for 10:00 a.m.
