#9 Central Hands Beaver Football 65-6 Loss in Season Finale

STORM LAKE, Iowa (November 13, 2021) - The nation's top offense proved to be too much for the Buena Vista football team to slow down on Saturday afternoon as the Dutch defeated the Beavers in their season final, 65-6.

Central, which came in leading DIII in scoring at over 58.0 points per game, chalked up 602 yards of total offense, including 490 yards through the air.  Fifth-year quarterback Blaine Hawkins tossed five touchdown passes and rushed for one more to help lead the charge for the Dutch who capped off a perfect 10-0 regular season.

Buena Vista scored its lone touchdown of the day on a Mason Wickett one-yard plunge early in the second half but BVU had its extra-point blocked and returned all the way for a Central two-point conversion.

Hawkins tossed a pair of first quarter touchdown passes and Central added a blocked punt that was recovered in the endzone to build a 21-0 cushion after one quarter.  The Dutch led 49-0 at halftime and took a 51-6 lead to the fourth.  Hawkins finished the game completing 29-of-43 pass attempts for 447 yards and the five scores while being intercepted for just the second time all season.  He now has 50 touchdown passes and only two interceptions on the year.

The Beavers had success throwing the football, completing 21-of-29 passes for 186 yards.  Brandon Kyles was 9-of-12 before leaving the game due to injury and Brayden Woodward came on and would go 12-of-16 for 120 yards despite being sacked four times.  Senior Colby Laughlin hauled in seven catches for 52 yards while fellow senior Eric Pacheco caught five for 44 yards and became the first player in program history to go over 4,000 career receiving yards.

Jeremy Woodward carried the ball 15 times and led all players with 96 yards. BVU finished with 146 yards on the ground.

Prior to the game 21 seniors were recognized for their contributions to the program throughou their respctive careers.  The group played a pivotal part in the turnaround of the program this season that secured its first .500 season since 2014.  BVU ends the year at 5-5 overall (4-4 A-R-C).
