DECATUR, Ill. (February 29, 2020) - The Buena Vista softball team was held to just two total runs on Saturday as the Beavers fell twice to Calvin College by scores of 10-1 (5 inn.) and 6-1.
The Knights scored six runs in the first inning of the opener to take control before adding two runs in each of the next two innings. The first two runs to cross came on bases loaded walks as Beaver pitching allowed eight free passes in the contest.
Sydney Carroll put BVU on the board in the second inning with her first home run of the year. Mckynze Hansen,
Carlee Guyett and Ida Rogers-Ferguson all chipped in with one hit each.
Sophomore
Peyton Gross (1-1) suffered the loss after allowing six runs on just four hits and five walks over 2.1 innings.
The Knights (3-0) scored single runs in each of the final six innings of game two while chalking up 13 hits. Only two of those base nocks went for extra-bases.
Hansen turned in a team-high two hits, including one double, to help lead the Beavers. Guyett also doubled and drove home the team's only run in the fifth.
Buena Vista falls to 1-3 overall and will look to bounce back on Sunday afternoon when it takes on Millikin University in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
