Demers' Career-High Not Enough as Beavers Fall to Grand View 83-71

Box Score

Junior Jasmine Demers scored a career-high 29 points for Buena Vista on Saturday afternoon, but that performance wasn't quite enough, as the Beavers fell to visiting Grand View University, 83-71.

Demers scored nine of BVU's first 12 points and made 11-of-18 from the field in the contest to go along with six rebounds and three assists.  Senior Jordan Tynes turned in her first career double-double for BVU, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Morgan Muhlbauer also chipped in with 11 points and grabbed five boards for BVU.

The Vikings used some stellar long range shooting to their advantage in the contest, making 12 from beyond the arc while shooting 50 percent.  BVU, meanwhile, was held to only five.  The Beavers did, however, outscore Grand View 14-7 at the charity stripe while attempting six more.  Grand View held a 47-39 margin on the glass, despite being outrebounded, 18-12, at the offensive end.

Grand View (5-6) made five of their 12 long range treys in the first quarter to build a 27-16 lead late in the frame.  BVU then went on a 16-4 run to grab a slim 32-31 lead midway through the second quarter.

The Vikings, however, closed the half on a 16-5 run of their own and never looked back from their.  They led by 12 after three quarters and never let BVU get within single digits after building a 15-point cushion in the fourth.

Buena Vista was just 1-of-11 from downtown in the second half and was held to 24 percent shooting overall after connecting on 47 percent in the first.

The Beavers dip to 7-5 on the year and will now be back into Iowa Conference play next Saturday afternoon, January 7, when they host Central College (8-2, 1-1 IIAC) for a 2:00pm tip-off.
