Demers and Larsen Post Double-Doubles in Season Opening Loss at Augustana (SD)

Box Score

Junior Jasmine Demers turned in her first career double-double, while junior transfer Claudia Larsen registered one in her Beaver debut, but the Buena Vista women's basketball team was dealt a 96-53 road loss to open its 2016-17 campaign on Tuesday night at DII Augustana (S.D.).

Demers made 4-of-18 shots attempts overall, including 2-of-4 from long range en route to 10 points and had six of her 10 boards on the offensive end.  Larsen, meanwhile, was 4-of-7 from the floor and 6-of-10 at the free-throw line to score a team-leading 14 points.  Eight of her game-hig 14 rebounds came on the offensive end, while she chipped in with an assist and one block.

Senior Sidney Beckman made three long-range treys to finish with nine points as Holly Schneider turned in six points during her first career start.

Buena Vista made just 3-of-13 shot attempts and fell behind 23-7 after the first quarter and trailed 45-27 at the break.  The shooting woes continued into the second half for the Beavers, who made 2-of-20 in the third quarter before finishing strong by converting 3-of-9 from downtown in the final quarter.

BVU turned the ball over 33 times but did hold a 51-49 edge on the glass.  The Vikings (2-2) shot 42 percent from the field in the game, while the Beavers were held to 25 percent.  Augustana also made 16-of-20 from the charity stripe, as BVU made 10-of-16.

Buena Vista (0-1) looks to bounce back this weekend when it takes part in the Gustavus Adolphus Classic on Friday and Saturday in St. Peter, Minn.  The Beavers will open play against Viterbo on Friday at 4:00pm and then play St. Scholastica on Saturday at 1:00pm.
