Box Score 2 The bats came alive during the Buena Vista softball's opener against UW-La Crosse inside of the Rochester Dome on Saturday, but the team was then held in check in the finale against UW-Oshkosh, as the Beavers splits a pair of non-conference games to run its record to 4-4.
In the opener, BVU needed to rally after falling behind 6-2 thru two innings. The deficit was short lived, however, as the Beavers plated four runs in the third to pull even at 6-6. Jeanne Bramhall had the big two-run blast in the inning to highlight the frame.
BVU then regained the lead in the fourth with three more runs, including two that were unearned. Senior Jordon Pilcher, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored in the game, got the scoring started with her double to left. She put BVU on the board in the first with a solo home run to right.
Freshman Keely Bycroft then capped the scoring for the Beavers with their second two-run home run of the contest, scoring Marissa Schmidt in the sxith.
Bycroft also finished with three hits and four RBI, while senior Lesa Turnquist added a pair of hits, including one of the team's four doubles.
The Beavers out-hit UW-La Crosse, 13-7 which helped overcome their five errors, defensviely.
Bycroft also picked up the win on the mound, going the final six innings and allowing no earned runs on just two hits, whiel striking out six. Jenna Falline got the start and lasted just one inning after beind charged with six runs (two earned) on five hits.
UW-Oshkosh scored all nine runs over the final three innings to pull away for the six-inning triumph. The game was scoreless until BVU allowed two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and four more in the sixth.
BVU was edged 10-7 in total hits, but were held to just one extra-base knock compared to five by UW-Oshkosh.
Schmidt had two of those base hits for BVU, including a double.
Moriah Guyett suffered the loss, going 4.2 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, despite striking out six and not walking a batter.
Buena Vista remains at .500 overall on the year and will be back in action next Saturday, March 14, with a pair of game at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan. Game one of that doubleheader is scheduled for 11:00am.
