Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Buena Vista softball team was looking to still make a move up the Iowa Conference standings on Tuesday afternoon, but the Beavers dropped a pair of tough games at Simpson College by the scores of 4-3 and 7-3.

The Storm took a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning before an RBI single from Cheyanne Boland and a two-run double by Lesa Turnquist put BVU on top for the first time at 3-2.  Simpson tied things up in the fifth with a two-out single before scoring a run in the sixth and retiring the Beavers in order in the 7th for the one-run victory.

Boland and Brooke Berkey each tallied two hits for the Beavers, who had seven overall.

Jenna Falline suffered the loss on the mound, allowing three earned runs on nine hits while striking out one.

The Beavers took control early in game two, getting a sacrifce fly from Sam Engleman in the first before scoring on a passed ball and an RBI single from Berkey in the third to build a 3-0 lead.

Simpson (23-13, 8-4 IIAC) then came through with a big six-run fourth inning, which included a grand slam, that put the team in front for good.

Turnquist doubled twice in the contest for the Beavers, with Stephanie Hayden adding one.  The duo combined for four of the team's seven hits.

Falline (10-9) again got the start and came up short, going 3.2 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits and one walk. Brittney Kubik came on in relief and surrendered a run on four hits, while striking out one, in 2.1 innings.

Buena Vista dips to 13-17 on the year (5-7 IIAC).  Despite the tough losses, the team did still secure the sixth and final spot into this year's Iowa Conference Tournament which begins next Thursday at a site yet to be determined.
