Box Score The Buena Vista women's basketball team couldn't overcome a 21-5 run by Grand View to end the first half on Friday evening, and the Vikings went on to top the Beavers, 84-60, snapping BVU's three-game win streak.
Senior Susan Kies turned in a game-high 21 points, on 6-of-18 shooting, while sophomore Lexi Fisher added 11. Senior Malarie Gilley was close behind with eight points, to go along with a team-leading eight rebounds.
As a team, BVU shot 33.9 percent from the field overall and only made 20-of-34 attempts from the free-throw line.
The game was back-and-forth throughout the first part of the first half with neither team leading by more than five over the first 12 minutes. A jumper by Gilley kept BVU within three at 19-16 closing in on the eight-minute mark.
From there, the Vikings closed the half by scoring 21 of the final 26 points. BVU went just 1-of-12 from the field and had six turnovers during that stretch.
Grand View (4-4) maintained that margin for the majority of the second half. The Beavers got within 15 in the early part before the lead went back to 20 before growing to as many as 27 with six minutes left.
The Beavers got back within 19 with just less than four minutes remaining, but that was as close as they could get.
Buena Vista is now 3-3 on the year and will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon when it wraps up play with a 1:00pm tip-off against Illinois Tech. Simpson and Illinois Tech played the late game on Friday.
