STORM LAKE, Iowa (Dec. 6, 2025) - The Buena Vista men's wrestling team hosted its annual BVU Open on Saturday inside of the Lamberti Recreation Center and finished the day with five overall placewinners.

A total of 17 teams were on hand with just over 180 total individuals competing. Trevor Kruse and Tyler Japp helped lead the way for Buena Vista with fourth and fifth place finishes.

Kruse (184lbs) began his day with a pair of falls to advance into the semifinal round. He then lost by fall in the semifinals and would medically forfeit the third-place match to close out his day. Japp, wrestling at 125 pounds, earned a bye in the first round and then picked up his first technical fall victory of the year at 17-1 to advance into the quarterfinals. His bid for a spot in the semifinals came up just short with a 7-2 setback, but he would finish the day strong with his second technical fall of the day in the consolation third round before notching a thrilling 13-9 win in the fifth-place  bout.
