ORANGE CITY, Iowa (Nov. 13, 2025) - The Buena Vista men's wrestling team was back on the mat for its second straight non-conference road dual on Thursday night, but the Beavers came up just short at Northwestern College (IA), 26-17, in a match-up that came down to the final bout.

Senior Tyler Japp gave BVU the early lead with a convincing 17-2 technical fall early in just 3:32. Japp came out with three first period takedowns and a pair of three-point near falls to break open a quick 15-2 cushion.

The Red Raiders came right back and would go on to win the next three matches with a pair of technical falls and one pin to go in front 16-5. 

Freshman LaTravion Agu got the Beavers back into the win column with his hard fought 8-4 decision at 157 pounds and that helped spark a bit of run that got the team with 20-17 heading into the final match of the night at 285 pounds. Among the surge were decisions at 174, 184 and 197 pounds, respectively, by Cameron Campos, Luis Salazar, Trevor Kruse.

in the final match of the night, a couple of early first period takedowns put Northwestern up 6-1 before the Red Raiders (1-0) finished things off with a fall in 2:42.

Buena Vista is now 0-2 in duals this season and will travel to Minnesota West Community & Technical College in a non-conference dual that starts at 2 p.m.
