The Buena Vista volleyball team was going after its 13th straight win on Saturday as it faced Wartburg in the Iowa Conference Volleyball Tournament, but the top-seeded Knights held off the Beavers in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-23, 25-23.
Senior Jade Schaap registered a match-high 11 kills to help lead BVU while Jamie Navinskey and Serena Sandvig added seven kills each. Mackenzie Gropel dished out 26 assists and also added seven digs, as Navinskey added 12 digs and three total blocks. Summer Goss turned in 18 digs.
Wartburg held the Beavers to just a -.020 hitting percentage in the opening set as it rolled to the six-point victory. The final two sets were nailbiters as Wartburg held off a furious BVU rally in the second after the Knights led 23-18.
Buena Vista jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the third and continued to lead 16-10 midway through. The Knights then went on an 8-2 spurt to tie things at 18-18 and later would take their first lead at 22-21 and didn't look back.
Schaap finishes her career as the program's all-time leader in kills with 1,914. The match also was the final one in the careers of Navinskey, Ali Grein and Lindsey Meyer.
Buena Vista concludes its season at 22-10 overall.
