Fresh off a big week that included Iowa Conference victories against a pair of teams that were sitting in the top-3 of the league standings, a pair of Buena Vista volleyball players have swept weekly IIAC honors for their play on the court.
Sandvig turned in her first three career double-digit kill totals to help the Beavers go 3-0. Against Loras College on Friday night, she led all players with a career-high 12 kills while making just one error over 21 total attempts. She followed that up with 10 kills and six total blocks during the team's thrilling five-set victory against Dubuque on Saturday afternoon. For the week, she totaled 33 kills and just five errors on 61 total attempts and recorded nine total blocks.
Schaap, meanwhile, had a solid week offensively, but also came up big with her defensive play as well. She was second on the team with 30 digs and seven total blocks over the three matches while also finishing third with 32 kills. She finished the week with a double-double of 13 kills and 17 digs against the Spartans while also posting six total blocks. She now sits 26 kills shy of 1,800 in her career and 26 digs shy of 1,300.
It marks the first time in Sandvig's career she has earned such honors and the first Beaver to land offensive accolades since Madie Bardole on October 4, 2015. Schaap, meanwhile, lands recognition for the third time, but the first since 2014 when she was a freshman. The two are the first BVU players to earn such honors this season.
Buena Vista is now 13-9 overall (3-3 IIAC) and has won seven of its last nine matches overall. The three home wins this past week move them to 5-0 inside of Siebens Fieldhouse this year and 17-5 since the start of 2014. The team will look to keep the home court advantage going on Tuesday night when it hosts Central College in an Iowa Conference match at 7:30pm.
