The Buena Vista women's soccer team ran into a buzz-saw on Wednesday as it traveled to #15 Loras for its first Iowa Conference road match of the year, as the Duhawks were just too much for the Beavers to handle in this contest, as they handed BVU a tough 8-0 loss inside the Rock Bowl.
Loras (9-1-1, 3-0 IIAC) wasted no time getting on the board, knocking through a rebound attempt following a free-kick with just under two minutes gone by. It became a 2-0 lead during the 10' when deflected ball was sent up in the air and then headed through. The Duhawks went on to score three more times in the half to build a 5-0 halftime cushion.
BVU was held to only two shots in the contest and no shots-on-goal. Loras got the scoring started again in the second half within the first 10 minutes before scoring a pair of goals just three minutes apart midway through the half.
The Duhawks finished with 33 shots in the match with Emily Robinson scoring twice as six different players scored one goal.
Rachel Novotny got the start in-goal for BVU and suffered the loss. She played the first half and allowed the five goals while recording nine saves. Katie Voortmann played the second half, surrendered three goals and notched a pair of saves.
Buena Vista falls to 2-9-1 on the year (0-2 IIAC) and will look to get back into the win column on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Simpson College (3-9, 0-3 IIAC) at 1:00pm.
