After playing a scoreless first half, both teams scored goals midway through the second half just minutes apart, but Mount Marty held BVU without a shot in the first overtime before scoring in the final minute of the first extra period and defeat the Beavers, 2-1.
BVU held a 7-3 edge in total shots over the first 45 minutes but couldn't capitalize, despite five of those attempts coming on-goal. The Beavers then had 17 shots in the second half, and after the Lancers scored during the 61st minute, BVU answered right back in the 64th when Dana Mefferd registered her first career goal off an assist from Madisyn Reikavam.
Tied at 1-1 into the first overtime, the Lancers had five total shots in that period, and made the most of their final attempt, finding the back of the net wit only 22 seconds left in the period.
Reikavam led BVU with four shots, including two on-goal while Caroline Maher added three. The Beavers had 12 of their 17 shots on-goal.
Buena Vista is now 2-2-1 on the year and will look for a quick turnaround as it travels to Monmouth College for a non-conference match on Saturday at 3:00pm before taking on Knox College on Sunday at 3:00pm.
