Buena Vista senior Jasmine Demers has been recognized by the Iowa Conference for her performances on the court this past week by being named the IIAC Women's Basketball Co-Performer of the Week.
In wins over the University of Dubuque and Loras College, respectively, Demers averaged 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks per contest. In the win over the Spartans last Wednesday on Senior Night, she scored seven of her 14 points in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead layup with under 10 seconds left that gave BVU its first lead since the first quarter. The team had trailed by 13 early in that final frame.
On Saturday at Loras, she scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record her team-leading eighth double-double of the year. She was 9-of-17 from the field against the Duhawks and scored 16 of her points in the first half as BVU was able to pull away with a big second quarter. It was the seventh time during conference play this season that she has reached 20 points in a game. With one game remaining, she's second in the league in scoring against IIAC foes (19.1ppg).
This is the first time Demers, a Second Team All-IIAC selection a year ago, has been recognized for a weekly honor in her career. It's the third time BVU has landed such accolades this season.
Buena Vista has won three straight games overall and is 13-11 (8-7 IIAC) and tied for fourth in the league standings. It wraps up its regular season on Saturday (Feb. 17) at Luther College with tipoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
