Demers Scores Career-High 32 but Beavers Tripped up at Dubuque

Senior Jasmine Demers scored a career-high 32 points and grabbed 15 rebounds but it wasn't quite enough on Wednesday night as the University of Dubuque snapped BVU's four-game win streak with an 82-73 victory inside the Stoltz Center.

Demers finished 14-of-26 from the field and 3-of-6 at the charity stripe to help her surpass her previous career-best of 29 points set last season at Grand View University.  Her rebound total was just two shy of her career-high set last January against Central.

Morgan Muhlbauer was held to just 1-of-6 from long range but managed to score 12 points and grab five rebounds.  Claudia Larsen scored seven points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out five assists and blocked a pair of shots.

Buena Vista led 29-20 after the first quarter before the Spartans caught fire to outscore the Beavers 30-14 in the second and take a 50-43 lead into halftime.

BVU, which shot 41 percent from the field overall, was just unable to mount any kind of run in the second half.  Dubuque, which led by as many as 11 in the half, virtually had an answer for nearly every Beaver score.

Abby Meyer and Crystal Rios each scored 16 points to lead the Spartans (4-10, 2-3 IIAC).

Buena Vista (8-6, 3-2 IIAC) looks to bounce back on Saturday (Jan. 13) when it returns home to host Loras College (9-6, 1-5 IIAC).  The Duhawks fell at home Wednesday night to Nebraska Wesleyan, 81-78.  Tip-off inside of Siebens Fieldhouse is set for 2:00 p.m.
