Senior Claudia Larsen finished with 18 points and Jasmine Demers added 13, but it would not be enough on Wednesday night, as Grand View University topped the Buena Vista women's basketball team, 83-60, down in Des Moines.
Larsen had one of her more complete games of the season against the Vikings, going 7-of-10 from the field and also adding seven rebounds, six assists, three blocks and three steals over 32 minutes. The Beavers also got balanced production from their bench with 23 points, including six each from Jess Denholm and Jade Cunningham. Those two combined for three of the team's five made three-point buckets in the contest as it shot just 20 percent from long range.
BVU led 17-15 after the first quarter and was in front by as many as 10 in the second before the Vikings stormed back over the final five minutes to take a 37-35 lead into the half. The Beavers were held to just 11 points in the third as the deficit grew to 64-46 going to the final period, and BVU was unable to make a late-game surge.
Bailee Arnburg and Blair Silliman each scored 19 points for Grand View (5-6) which shot 43 percent in the contest compared to just 37 for the Beavers. BVU also turned it over 24 times.
The Blue and Gold dip to 4-5 on the year and will now have some time off for the holidays, as it does not return to the court until December 28-29 when it heads out to Thousand Oaks, Calif., to face both LaVerne and Cal Lutheran.
