The Buena Vista women's basketball team tips-off its season next week, but played host to NAIA #10 Morningside on Saturday in what was an exhibition game for the Beavers. The Mustangs broke the game open late in the first half and cruised to a 95-56 victory.
Morningside (4-2) made 19-of-34 three-point buckets in the contest on just 32 made field goals. It also went 12-of-13 at the charity stripe.
Buena Vista started the game strong shooting-wise but cooled off in the second half as it finished the game at 30 percent from the field, including just 5-of-25 from downtown and only 9-of 14 at the free-throw line.
The Mustangs led 22-16 after the first quarter but went 6-of-8 from long range in the second while holding BVU to only six field goals in the period to extend their lead to 54-31 at the break. The Beavers managed only 10 points in the third quarter as Morningside wins its second straight game overall.
Jasmine Demers scored 13 points and grabbed six boards to lead Buena Vista while Morgan Muhlbauer added 11 points. Claudia Larsen hauled in a game-high 11 rebounds while Holly Schneider dished out five assists.
Madison Braun scored 22 points, on 6-of-8 shooting from three-point land, to lead the Mustangs.
The Beavers will now tip-off their regular season on Wednesday night, November 15, by hosting #16 Gustavus Adolphus at 7:00 p.m.
