Buena Vista freshman catcher Carlee Guyett continues to collect postseason recognition honors for her stellar play this season, and now added to that list is a First Team All-Midwest Region selection as voted on by members of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
Guyett was one of 10 Iowa Conference players named to the First Team and will now be put on the ballot for All-America consideration. The All-America team will be announced on Wednesday, May 23.
The first-year player hit a team-high and Iowa Conference-best .466 on the year which was the fifth-best single-season average in school history and ranked second in the entire region. She set a new school record with 17 doubles on the year and had at least one hit in 34 of the 36 games, including an 18-game hitting streak to begin her career. She had multiple hits in her first four career games and finished the year with 18 overall. Her 61 total hits were also one shy of matching the school record and were the third-most in the region.
Her .524 on-base percentage ranked fifth in the region and she was also in the top-15 in RBI (35) and total bases (83).
Defensively, she made just one error in more than 160 total chances and also threw out three attempted base stealers.
It marks the third straight season the program has landed an All-Region performer and the second straight with a First Team selection (Marissa Schmidt). Guyett, however, will be looking to become the program's first All-American since 1998 (Andi Royster; First Team).
