Softball Edged in Extra's before Cruising Past MCLA

The Buena Vista softball team split a pair of games for the second straight day, and after losing a tough eight-inning defeat in the opener the team responded with a big 13-1 rout of MCLA to end the day.

Against Buffalo St. in the opener, BVU took a 1-0 lead in the first when Marissa Schmidt doubled down the left field line.  She then singled home a run in the third to make it 2-0 before Buffalo St. got on the board in the fourth with a solo home run.

Buffalo St. then tied it in the sixth with an RBI double before Schmidt tied things up at 3-3 with her first home run of the year.

The game went extras, and it was Buffalo St scoring twice in its half before BVU got only one back in the bottom half to suffer its first two-game losing streak of the season.

Schmidt went 3-for-3 with a walk, three RBI and a run scored to help spark the Beaver offense.  Michaela Mason had the team's other two hits in the contest, including one double and also scored twice.

Keely Bycroft suffered her first loss in the circle this season, going all eight innings, scattering nine hits and four earned runs while striking out four.

It was all BVU in the match-up with MCLA, as the Beavers scored six times in the third and seven more times in the fourth to win in five innings.

Mason had another multi-hit game for BVU as seven players had one hit.

Moriah Guyett allowed only three hits and struck out a season-high six in her complete-game effort, improving to 3-1 on the year.

Buena Vista is now 6-2 overall and returns to action on Tuesday with games against Colby and UW-Oshkosh
