Men's Cross Country Takes Ninth at IIAC Championships

The Buena Vista men's cross country team returned to its home course on Saturday afternoon when it ran in the 2016 Iowa Conference Championships out at Sunrise Pointe Golf Course.  The Beavers finished ninth as a team with 293 points.

Senior Ben Sampson was the team's top finisher by reaching the line in 28:46.8.  Fellow senior Steven Smith was close behind in 28:54.

Senior Tyler Larson ran four minutes faster than his time out on this same course during the BVU Invite one month ago, coming in Saturday with a time of 30:53.

Freshman Zach Kenny and Alex Loerts also turned in personal best times of 31:05 and 31:12, respectively.  Kenny's time was nearly five minutes faster than his BVU Open time.

"Our underclassmen ran really solid today," said BVU head coach Colt Slack. "Freshmen Zach Kenny and Alex Loerts stepped up and ran great races as they both ran personal records. Tyler Larson also ran great and has continued to drop his times throughout the season. We will get back to the drawing board this Monday and gear up for the DIII Regional meet on Nov. 12th."

Isaac Jensen was the overall winner and the MVP with a time of 25:00.1.  He came in 15 seconds clear of runner-up Alec Bass of Dubuque.

Loras College finished with 67 points and edged both Nebraska Wesleyan and Wartburg, which finished with 70 points each.

Buena Vista will return to action on Saturday, November 12, when the team competes at the Regional Championships at St. Olaf.
