Men's Tennis Drops IIAC Opener against Loras

The Buena Vista men's tennis team played its first match of the spring and of the Iowa Conference season by taking on Loras College in Waterloo on Saturday, but it was the Duhawks coming away with a 9-0 victory over BVU.

Loras swept through doubles play and took all six singles matches in straight sets from a Beaver team looking to get more experience under its belt.

"Obviously the outcome is not what we wanted or expected, but it was nice to get out and be able to play against competition other than ourselves," said head coach Brett Groen. "It gave us an opportunity to gauge where we are and what we need to work and focus on for the next week. There certainly were plenty of bright spots to be had when it came to our performance; just too many negatives that knocked us out of the games and ultimately the match."

Buena Vista is 0-3 overall (0-1 IIAC) and is set to play Bethany Lutheran and Mount Marty in Owatonna, Minn., on Saturday, March 17.  Times for either match have yet to be determined.
