It was a scoreless first half of play on Wednesday at Mount Marty for the Buena Vista men's soccer team, but the Beavers broke the match open in the second with five goals en route to a 5-0 shutout of the Lancers in Yankton, S.D.
Despite taking nine shots over the first 45 minutes, BVU was unable to give itself many opportunities to score. That all changed in the second, when the Beavers scored twice in the first five minutes of the period and never looked back from there.
Jacob Heath scored his second goal of the season during the 48' off an assist from Ean Honeycutt and Bryce Godwin. Godwin then made it 2-0 just over a minute later off a nice feed from Alan Maldanado and Edgar Raya.
"We played a decent first half but didn't create too many clean chances," said head coach Ben McArthur. In the second half we were able to clean up play in the final third and were able score some goals. It was nice to see some young players set up and get the job done."
The five goals were a season-high for BVU and the most for the team since defeating Iowa Wesleyan by the same score back on Oct. 7, 2015.
The Beavers improve to 3-3 overall and is back in action against another GPAC foe on Friday when it travels to Dordt College for a 2:00pm contest.
