Sophomore running back Cody Cole rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Bobby Brown passed for 218 yards and two more scores, and the Buena Vista football team returned home to J. Leslie Rollins Stadium on Parent's Day to pick up a commanding 34-0 victory over visiting Loras College (1-6, 0-4 IIAC) on Saturday afternoon.
Cole, who stepped in to make his first career start and fill in for the injured Dylan Barrett, carried the ball 29 times while adding the final two TD's of the contest in the fourth quarter. The first of those two came from 12 yards out, just four minutes into the final stanza with the final one coming from just five yards out near the four-minute mark.
BVU didn't waste much time getting onto the scoreboard in the contest, as Brown hooked up with his favorite target of the day, Jalen Henningsen, for a 35-yard strike with 10:17 left in the first quarter.
Freshman place kicker Tyler Stolen then made it a 10-0 BVU advantage after one quarter, with a 23-yard field goal attempt with 3:13 left.
Stolen later added a 44-yard field goal midway through the second quarter to extend the margin to 13-0 before Henningsen hauled in a 37-yard TD pass from Brown with just under two minutes left in the half to give BVU a 20-0 lead at the break.
After a scoreless third quarter, Cole, who posted the Beavers' first 100-yard rushing performance of the season, put the game away on the ground with his first two career rushing touchdowns.
Brown, who came into the contest leading the Iowa Conference in passing yards per game (244.0), completed 13 of his 25 attempts on the day and also matched his career-high with his 10th and 11th touchdown passes of the year.
Henningsen finished with 115 yards on six catches, as Adam Cave followed with four catches for 50 yards.
The Beaver defense was on top of its game all afternoon, holding the Duhawks to only 139 yards of total offense. It also held Nate Carrier, who posted over 200 yards rushing against them a year ago to a season-low 40 yards on just 14 carries.
Senior Mason Nielsen turned in 10 tackles, including seven solo, while Brady Randall added seven tackles overall, including four for a loss and 1.5 sacks. Sophomore Matt Schmidt had a team-high two sacks on the day, as TJ Bruch batted away a pair of passes.
