The bats went silent for the Buena Vista baseball team on Sunday night, and Central College broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning, as the Beavers fell to the Dutch in the series opener, 10-1.
Central grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a passed ball before the Dutch broke things open with a four-run fourth inning that included just two base hits.
BVU was held to just two hits over the the first six-plus innings before Kendall Candor blasted a solo home run over the left field fence to get the team on the board at 8-1.
The Dutch then added a pair of runs in the ninth and ended the contest with 11 hits.
Candor finished 2-for-3 to lead the Beavers at the plate, as the team finished with only three hits total.
Jake Hadaway allowed eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits over 5.2 innings. He also walked four and struck out two. Egan Bonde was charged with a run on three hits over 2.2 innings of relief while striking out three. Tyler Vorrie worked the final frame and gave up one run on one hit with two strikeouts.
Dylan Diveney picked up the win for Central (14-12, 6-4 IIAC). He was lifted after pitching five shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out eight.
Buena Vista (16-9, 7-3 IIAC) had its five-game win streak snapped with the loss. The Beavers will try and start a new streak when they close out the three-game set with the Dutch in a doubleheader starting at 12:00pm on Monday afternoon.
