Ringblom and Wessels Named on d3baseball.com All-American Teams

The d3baseball.com All-American teams have been announced for the eighth straight year, and for Buena Vista, the team is represented by a pair of individuals.  Senior starting pitcher Jon Ringblom was named to the Second Team while sophomore catcher Brandon Wessels was selected Honorable Mention.

Ringblom finished the year at 8-2 overall with a 1.03 ERA which led the conference as well as the entire Central Region.  In 11 appearances (all starts), he worked a total of 78.2 innings, allowed just 12 runs and 58 hits, while striking out a career-best 90 and walking only 15.  His seven complete games led the team and tied for the third-most in all of Division III.  His ERA ranked seventh, nationally, as did his strikeout total.

Earlier this month, he was a First Team All-Iowa Conference selection and was tabbed the IIAC Pitcher of the Year.  In addition, he's also been named the Pitcher of the Year in the Central Region by both d3baseball.com and by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings.

Wessels started all 46 games for the Beavers this season and finished fourth on the team with a .362 batting average.  He was third in hits (64) and led the way with seven triples and five home runs.  He also added seven doubles and a team-best slugging percentage of .569.  He went 8-for-10 in stolen base attempts and committed just three errors, defensively, in nearly 300 total chances.  He was also a First Team All-Region selection at catcher by both d3baseball.com and the ABCA.

The two are the program's first All-Americans since 2011 when Brad Blum earned Second Team accolades by the ABCA as a shortstop.  The last d3baseball.com All-American was Brandon Pietrzyk (Second Team) in 2009.

It's also the first time that the program has had multiple All-American recognitions in the same season.  They helped lead Buena Vista to a school record 37 wins this season (37-9) as well as the regular season and Iowa Conference Tournament titles.
