Baseball with Seven All-Region Selections; Ringblom Tabbed Pitcher of the Year

The postseason accolades keep filing in for the Buena Vista baseball team, as seven players have been named to the d3baseball.com All-Region Team as announced on Monday.  Included in that group is senior Jon Ringblom, who was also voted as the Central Region Pitcher of the Year.

The players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools.  A total of 774 players were nominated with the ballot then made available for SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region, as well as D3baseball.com staff and contributors.  This is the third year that d3baseball.com has named All-Region teams.  BVU had not had more than one player selected in the last two.

The seven total selections for BVU in 2014 is one more than any other team in the region had earned in a single season during the three-year history of the award (Illinois Wesleyan had six in 2013).  The four Beavers listed on the First Team were also the most among any team this season.

Ringblom went 8-2 overall this season and his 1.14 ERA was tops in the region and ranked 12th in all of Division III.  His 6.85 hits allowed per game was 10th and his 80 strikeouts entering the regional tournament ranked third.  He allowed an unearned run on just four hits while helping the team open Regional Tournament play with a 7-1 win over St. Scholastica.  He's the first BVU pitcher to earn Regional Pitcher of the Year accolades.

Also landing First Team accolades for BVU were sophomore Brandon Wessels (catcher), junior Scott Harris (starting pitcher) and Ian Grigsby (relief pitcher).  Wessels was a Second Team selection last year as a freshman.

Sophomore outfielder Neil Marshall and senior designated hitter Jeremy Lambert were voted Second Team selections, while junior relief pitcher Lucas Hadaway landed a spot on the Third Team.

There was a total of 10 IIAC players who earned honors on one of the three teams this season.

Buena Vista captured both the regular season and Iowa Conference Tournament titles and was one of the final four teams remaining in the Central Regional Tournament.  The Beavers finished their year with a school record 37 wins (37-9).
